Effective April 1, Ghana has introduced a new airport infrastructure development charge that will raise airfares.
Under the new policy, international passengers face surcharges of US$50 (R815) on one-way tickets and $100 (R1 630) on return journeys.
Regional fares have risen by up to $30 (R490) for one-way trips, while domestic travellers now pay an additional $9 (R147) per one-way ticket.
According to Africa Business Insider, airlines have started passing the charge directly to passengers, increasing ticket prices on domestic, regional and long-haul routes.
