Heathrow strike for coronation weekend

Heathrow security staff are planning to strike during King Charles’s Coronation on Saturday, May 6. This could disrupt the millions of passengers travelling through the airport that weekend.

Walkouts are scheduled from May 4-10 and again, from May 25-26 over pay disputes, according to Euronews.com. Unite union says Heathrow Airport is set for “May mayhem”, causing unavoidable disruption and delays.

Heathrow has been offering a 10% pay increase since January and recently improved the offer with a £1 150 (R26 010) lump sum this year.

Referring to the strike during the coronation, an airport spokesperson said: “We kept Heathrow running smoothly during the first 10 days of Unite’s failed industrial action, and passengers can have confidence that we will do so again this time. We will not let Unite disrupt the flow of visitors to the UK during such an important period for the country.”
