‘Hotel Sustainability Basics’ adds more African accommodations

The World Travel & Tourism Council’s (WTTC) ‘Hotel Sustainability Basics’ programme has reached a new milestone, with 1 700 accommodations certified, including 32 more in Africa.

The verification process includes a 12-step programme to reduce carbon emissions, protect and promote nature, and ensure local communities benefit from the hotel. 

Africa now has 54 verified hotels. The new ones are:

  • South Africa: Radisson Blu Gautrain Hotel Sandton, Radisson Blu Port Elizabeth, Radisson Hotel Convention Centre OR Tambo, Radisson Red Cape Town, Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront;
  • Mauritius: Solana Beach Mauritius, Radisson Blu Poste Lafayette Resort & Spa, Radisson Blu Azuri Resort & Spa, Tamarina Beach Club Hotel Limited;
  • Rwanda: Radisson Blu Hotel & Kigali Convention Centre;
  • Nigeria: Radisson Blu Ikeja, Radisson Blu Anchorage Hotel Victoria Island Lagos, Radisson Serviced Apartments Victoria Island Lagos;
  • Zambia: Radisson Blu Hotel Lusaka, Radisson Blu Mosi-Oa-Tunya Livingstone Resort;
  • Kenya: Best Western Plus Westlands, Radisson Blu Hotel & Residence Nairobi Arboretum, Radisson Blu Hotel Nairobi Upper Hill;
  • Tanzania: Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp;
  • Niger: Radisson Blu Hotel & Conference Center Niamey;
  • South Sudan: Radisson Blu Juba;
  • Madagascar: Radisson Blu Antananarivo Waterfront, Radisson Antananarivo Waterfront, Radisson Serviced Apartments Antananarivo City Centre, Hôtel le Relais de la Reine de l’Isalo, Hôtel La Maison Lovasoa, Hôtel Entremer Belo sur Mer, Le Louvre Hotel et Spa, Mantasoa Lodge, Lodge des Terres Blanches, Carlton Madagascar, Hotel Le Relais Normand.
