After 30 years in business, Western Cape tour operator, ICAN Holidays, will cease operations at the end of May.
“It has been a difficult decision and one that has not been taken lightly. We would like to thank the travel community and our loyal staff, some of whom have been with us for over 15 years, for their support over the years. ICAN has survived many crises in the past but in the absence of a clear indication of when we can again earn revenue, we have decided that an orderly suspension of the business is in the best interests of our staff and clients,” said director of ICAN Holidays, Andrew van Zyl.
Andrew explained to Travel News that, faced with a situation that would require them to burn through their remaining reserves and potentially face bankruptcy in six to nine months, the company had opted to rather cease operations with the hope that they would be able to return to the industry when travel demand picked up again with their brand still intact.
“Making this decision now means that we are in a position to honour our commitments to our clients and provide our staff with the severance packages that they deserve for their loyal service. We will not be disappearing and are still responding to phone calls and emails and assisting our clients in processing their amendment and refund requests. A decision on the future of the business, and whether to resume trading, will be made at a later time when the market improves and will be communicated,” said Andrew.
