Kenya woos SA travellers

KENYA Airways has

teamed up with the

Kenya Tourism Board

(KTB) to step up its marketing

efforts in South Africa in a bid

to attract more South African

travellers to the country.

The two organisations

recently launched joint

marketing campaigns in

South Africa through an online

consumer campaign that

focuses on promoting the

Swahili coast and the Kenyan

wildlife experience.

According to Jacinta Nzioka,

KTB’s acting director of

marketing, South Africa is

the second-highest source

market for Kenya with over

40 000 tourists last year. “As

we talk of Africa being our

next frontier in tourism, South

Africa is among the markets

with potential and, for this

reason, we have launched the

campaigns as part of other

promotional activities to woo

the market to Kenya.”

Spokesperson for Cullinan

Outbound Tourism, John Ridler,

agrees and says the Mombasa

coast, with its white beaches

and azure blue seas, is a

popular destination for the SA

traveller. He says the seaside

resorts offer excellent valuefor-money,

which is important

for South Africans. The only

deterrent for a holiday at the

Kenyan coast is that the ights

are via Nairobi. “Connections

are excellent though.”
