KLM funds SAF project in Netherlands

KLM is among a number of investors propelling SkyNRG towards the construction of the Netherlands’ first sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) factory. The project is set to break ground in 2029.

The factory is just the beginning, with the group hoping to secure government funding for the upscaling and acceleration of SAF production. Market research indicates that 87% of Dutch respondents believe their air travel tax should be going towards making flyer cleaner.

Marjan Rintel, CEO of KLM, said: “We are committed to purchasing 75 000 tons of SAF per year, which is roughly 2% of our total fuel consumption. With this factory, we are taking a concrete step towards accelerating SAF production in the Netherlands, reinforcing our leading international position in this field.”
