Lufthansa Group clarifies SA operations

Lufthansa Group airlines has retracted a statement to eTNW in which it said flights to SA would be cut, effective March 18. The group’s airlines are still operating flights to SA, with the exception of Austrian Airlines, which will suspend all operations on March 19 (see eTNW story here).

“As you can imagine, the situation globally is changing rapidly and numerous statements and responses are being generated with very quick turnaround times across markets,” the airline’s PR agency, Atmosphere, said.

“There was unfortunately a miscommunication with the statement that was secured this morning and sent through to eTNW, which stated that Lufthansa Group was no longer operational in South Africa.

“The statement should have read that operations had been reduced, but as of this moment are still operational. We don’t, as yet, have an update to this but will send one through soon as something becomes available.”
