Mauritius readies to welcome tourists

Mauritius is gradually reopening to tourists, with suppliers announcing the launch of services.

Beachcomber will open its resorts to residents, starting with Canonnier Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa on Friday (July 3).

The phased reopening of resorts includes Mauricia, Victoria, Trou Aux Biches and Paradis on September 1 and Shandrani on November 16. The opening of Dinarobin is yet to be announced.

“Although we know that South Africans can’t travel quite yet, the opening of Canonnier feels quite significant,” Beachcomber Tours said in a statement to the trade.

“It shows Beachcomber hotels are opening up and are applying all the safety precautions so it can welcome members from countries that are given permission to come to Mauritius,” adds md Terry Munro.

Terry says there is interest from SA travellers who want to visit Mauritius but that they are waiting for confirmation from officials on when borders will open up before booking.

World Leisure Holidays md, Ramesh Jeenarain, agrees: “We have received a few enquiries from travel agents for bookings later this year. Mauritius is expected to open its borders on September 1. We are now just waiting for South Africa to announce the reopening of its borders for international or regional travel.”

Meanwhile, Air Mauritius has announced the resumption of operations to Rodrigues starting July 1. International commercial passenger flights remain suspended until August 31.
