More countries close borders

Hong Kong and Nigeria are among the latest countries to close their borders, to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Hong Kong announced a ban on all foreign visitors and transit arrivals to the city, effective March 25, ce of Hong Kong, Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, said in a press conference.

All travellers from mainland China, Macau and Taiwan, as well as Hong Kong residents, will be barred from entry if they have been to a foreign country in the past 14 days.

The restriction will be in place for 14 days.

Nigeria announced the closure of all the country’s airports to all international flights, effective from March 23, to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Murtala Muhammad International airport in Lagos, and Nnamdi Azkiwe International Airport in Abuja, closed on March 23. This is in addition to Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano, Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, and Port Harcourt International Airport in Omagwa, which were all closed from March 21.

The airports are closed to all incoming international flights, with the exception of emergency and essential flights.

Domestic flights will continue normal operations at all airports.
