Tourists will soon have a new way to explore the unspoilt coastline and bushveld of Mozambique’s southern coastline, with the launch of two immersive slackpacking trails.
Just Keep Walking Tours was launched by DMC Destination Mozambique in collaboration with a local guide. The trails include a three-night trip from Inhaca to Ponta Membene, traversing between campsites, and a four-night trail from Ponta Mucombo to Milibangalala, with overnight stops at various lodges.
“We are excited to launch what is a unique offering for Mozambique. These trails were developed with the nature lover in mind, and will give guests the opportunity to immerse themselves in both the beautiful coastal surrounds and the bush of the Maputo National Park,” said Destination Mozambique Co-Founder Nikki Wiedemann.
The walking tours are slated for dates in April, June, August and September. Both tours have a minimum group size of 10 and a maximum of 22. Rates include all accommodation, activities and food and beverages.
Ponta Mucombo to Milibangalala itinerary
After arriving at Maputo Airport by plane or road, guests are transferred to Maputo National Park, where they will be taken on a safari game drive through the game-rich protected area. An afternoon snack will be served at one of the park’s inland lakes, before guests are served a classic Mozambican dinner at the camp at Ponta Mucombo.
Day two starts with a meditation and 10km coastal walk to the luxury Anvil Bay Lodge, where activities such as swimming with dolphins and other beach activities are on offer. The following day, guests partake in a guided walk in the national park. Sundowners and canapes are served at the lake, before dinner at Ponta Membene.
Day four starts with meditation and yoga on the beach, followed by a 10km walk to the five-star Montebelo Milibanagala Bay Resort. Guests will be served a full breakfast and can enjoy the swimming pool, beach and spa. The tour ends the next day with another game drive out of the national park to the airport.
The rate for the tour is $1 400 pp.
Inhaca to Ponta Membene itinerary
After arriving in Maputo, guests will be transferred to Inhaca Island by boat, were a beach picnic and snorkelling will be arranged. They will be transferred to Santa Maria and have a guided walk to Ponta Abril and camp out under the stars.
Day two starts with a morning meditation and 10km walk along the coast to Ponta Mucombo, where a hearty breakfast will be served. Lunch and dinner are also included.
After a morning meditation, on day three guests walk another 10km to Ponta Membene, where they can spend the day swimming, fishing or relaxing. Sundowners and canapes are served at the lake, followed by a farewell dinner on the beach. The tour wraps up with a game drive out of the Maputo National Park.
The rate for the tour is $600 (around R10 700) pp.
