Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has signed a letter of intent with Fincantieri for the construction of four new cruise ships.

The vessels, which will be delivered between 2030 and 2036, will be the largest vessels in the cruise line’s history, weighing an approximate 226 000 tonnes. The ships will feature over 5 100 berths, accommodating more than 8 300 people, including crew. Designed according to the highest standards of comfort and technology, these ships will also incorporate sustainability features.

Currently, NCL’s largest cruise ship is Norwegian Encore delivered from Meyer Werft in 2019 at 169 000 gross tonnes and a capacity of just under 4 000 passengers, reports maritime-executive.com. Norwegian’s largest capacity cruise ship is the Norwegian Escape which can accommodate 4 200 passengers.

Fincantieri has already built two ships for the NCL brand, Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva, while Norwegian Aqua, the first of the Prima Plus class, will be delivered in the coming months.

The cruise line has yet to announce whether these larger ships will be part of a new class of ship.
