A new 60-room property, Waterfalls Lodge, has opened in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
Developed by Wild Horizons, part of the Tourvest Group, the property marks a shift in hospitality strategy by offering a hotel-style build that supports slow travel, job creation and sustainability.
Gary Archer, CEO of Wild Horizons, said: “We’ve designed Waterfalls Lodge for longer guest stays, to provide stable jobs and to support meaningful integration into the local tourism economy.”
The property operates on a flexible bed-and-breakfast format and was constructed within a hotel-zoned area with adjoining greenbelt restoration. It includes water-saving infrastructure, low-impact landscaping and furnishings made from locally sourced materials.
It has created more than 70 direct local jobs with further employment opportunities emerging via contracted services, transfers and supply chains.
The lodge is part of the broader Wild Horizons footprint in the region, which includes tour operations, restaurants, excursions and community-linked projects. Examples include the raincoat rental initiative near Victoria Falls, maintained by more than 160 local vendors, as well as the Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust, which runs educational programmes for over 1 000 children annually.
Wild Horizons has also assumed responsibility for maintaining adjacent greenbelt land. “It is part of our commitment to the long-term stewardship of this area,” said Archer.
The property officially opened to guests on July 21 and is now accepting bookings.
