Passengers sue Alaska Airlines, Boeing

23 Jan 2024

Passengers have taken legal action against Alaska Airlines and Boeing for their alleged role in the door blowout incident on flight 1282 at the beginning of the month.

Multiple news agencies have reported that passengers on the flight were previously offered US$1 500 (R28 750) compensation, but dozens of passengers say it is not enough and have launched a class action lawsuit against the airline and manufacturer.

“It’s really upsetting and retraumatising, frankly, to keep learning how close we were to dying,” Susanna Anderson, one of the passengers on the flight, told Kiro 7 News.

The lawsuit will be handled by The Strittmatter Firm – a US-based practice that “represents real people whose lives have been shattered by the negligence and wrongdoing of others”.

The case is still pending investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board, with a date not yet set for the matter to be heard.
