The lodge-style Protea Hotel by Marriott Kruger Gate has expanded its amenities and enhanced experiences following a R100 million investment.
The hotel is at the Paul Kruger Gate in the Greater Kruger Conservancy, on the banks of the Sabie River.
The upgrades include a significant increase in capacity across the hotel’s accommodation and facilities.
New features include a speciality coffee shop and wooden walkways and elevated decks from the reception area create a treetop ambiance.
The room count has been increased from 96 rooms to 138 rooms, which feature Africa-inspired décor, en-suite bathrooms, air-conditioning, free WiFi and in-room dining. Accommodation varies from standard to large guest rooms and executive and Presidential suites.
Executive suites, the Presidential suite and a helipad have been added, allowing for groups, whether families or a corporate teams, to have an exclusive, private experience.
The Presidential suite comprises two en-suite bedrooms with outdoor showers and are linked to other executive suites. The living space includes an exclusive deck and plunge pool; an open-plan 10-seater room for dining and meetings and a private kitchen service. Private, guided game-viewing safaris are on offer.
The Kudyela restaurant and the Lapa have been expanded and modernised.
The game-viewing walkway, set on the banks of the Sabie River, offers uninterrupted views into the Kruger Park and houses the Pool Bar, which serves à la carte lunches.
In 2020, Protea Hotel by Marriott Kruger Gate will also open an African-inspired spa overlooking the Sabie River, as well as revitalised conference and event facilities.
