To celebrate its 40th birthday, Protea Hotels by Marriott has announced the opening of two new properties, including its first property in Angola.

Protea Hotels by Mariott will make its Angolan debut with the Protea by Mariott Luanda. The property is situated between Luanda’s city centre and the city of Talatona. The property has 84 guestrooms and suites fashioned in contemporary African style with terracotta-colour furnishings, with nearby access to a range of businesses and private event destinations.

The hotel will include its own restaurant, Múcua, an all-day restaurant serving a fusion of Portuguese and Angolan cuisine as well as a rooftop bar where guests can enjoy drinks and light snacks with a panoramic view of the surrounding area.

Guests will be able to enjoy access to a fully equipped gym and an outdoor pool.

The second of the hotel group’s newest additions is the Protea by Marriott Pretoria Hatfield. The property aims to attract business and leisure travellers. It’s located near to diplomatic, government and corporate offices as well as shopping centres and entertainment destinations.

The hotel features 203 guest rooms as well as a hotel serving African cuisine, the African Restaurant and Bar. The property also has five state-of-the-art conference venues with the ability to cater to large-scale and smaller-scale events.

Angola will be the eighth African country in the Protea by Marriott portfolio. After starting in South Africa, the hotel group has expanded to Botswana, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia and now Angola.
