Gatwick Airport could increase passenger departure taxes by almost 11% by 2021 as outlined in a request to the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority.
The airport has submitted the request to the CAA, which it says presents the best deal for passengers and airlines. It includes a request for the CAA to approve a per-passenger price increase to £9,76 (R149) in fiscal year 2021 – compared with £8,80 (R134) in the 2014-2015 financial year.
According to a statement by Gatwick Airport, it is to help create the conditions in which Gatwick and other airports in the south east can compete on service quality and price to the benefit of passengers and the airline community.
Stewart Wingate, London Gatwick ceo, says: “We believe this revised offer will provide a much better future for passengers, the airline community and the airport than would be the case through a continuation of the current system of regulation.”
