South Africa's only ski resort, Tiffindell in the Eastern Cape, could be up and running again by next year, according to new owner, Lew Campbell.
The beleaguered resort was auctioned by the High St Auction Co on July 12, and sold to Campbell, owner of the Ski Deck Snow Skiing Centre in Ferndale, Johannesburg, for R5.5 million.
The resort was liquidated in 2009 following a lengthy court battle.
“I am excited to get it up and running again. This is not only a good thing for skiing and tourism in South Africa but is a job creation opportunity for the local people in the area,” said Campbell.
Situated along the Ben McDhui peak in the southern region of the Drakensberg, the resort has chalets able to accommodate about 142 people, with the main lodge area featuring a lounge, restaurant, kitchen, bar, a shop and ski hire facilities.
SA ski resort could be operational by 2013
