TAUCK Tours - one of America's largest tour operators - has decided to bring 22 group tours of between 30 to 40 people to Southern Africa, with Welcome Tours appointed as its receptive tour operator.
According to Edward Scheun, Welcome's divisional manager for the United Kingdom and the US, Tauck has previously investigated the possibility of bringing tours to South Africa and rejected the idea.
"However, there is a growing demand for tours from the US and that, coupled with the launch of Satour's international marketing campaign, has caused them to re-evaluate their stand."
The first group will arrive in Cape Town on the direct Atlanta flight on 4 February 2001, starting pointof their 12-day itinerary, which takes them from Cape Town to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, to a two-night stay at the Michelangelo Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg on to Pilgrim's Rest in Mpumalanga, from there a visit to the game reserves and finally to Sun City in the Northern Province.
All tours will fall in the five-star category.
"We're proud to be associated with this prestigious company which has been operating for 75 years, they take pride in the quality of their tours."
Representatives from Tauck, Scott Supernaw and Herbert Wiese, were recently in South Africa and were taken to see parts of the country in order to plan their 12-day tour package.
Welcome tour guide, Mark Buck says both were "extremely enthusiastic" about all South Africa has to offer.
