SAA is upping its route network, with several new domestic and regional services on the horizon.

Speaking at an event during the recent Africa’s Travel Indaba, SAA Chief Commercial Officer Tebogo Tsimane confirmed the airline’s plans to expand routes as below:

Domestic routes:

  • Johannesburg-George, launching April 2026
  • Johannesburg-East London, launch date still to be confirmed
  • Cape Town-Durban, launch date to be confirmed

Regional routes

  • Johannesburg-Gaborone, launching October 2025
  • Seasonal flights between Cape Town and Mauritius, launching November 2025

This regional expansion complements the long-haul growth strategy already reported by Travel News, with SAA planning new intercontinental routes to Mumbai, India, and Guangzhou, China, via South East Asia in 2026.
