South African Airways operated its first flight with the new Airbus A350-900 on December 24 from Johannesburg to Cape Town.
Flight SA 323 departed Johannesburg at 10h00 and the return flight SA336 from Cape Town landed at 16h00.
The A350 will replace the Airbus A340-600 and will operate Johannesburg-New York on a non-stop basis.
The aircraft is the first of four new A350-900s recently acquired by SAA. As additional aircraft are introduced, more routes will be operated by the new aircraft.
