Saudis roll out tourism mega-project

Work on two resorts at Amaala, a multibillion-dollar megaproject in Saudi Arabia managed by Red Sea Global (RSG) and backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, is taking shape.

The project will cover an area of about 4 000km2, roughly two-and-a-half times the size of the City of Johannesburg. It forms part of the Saudi Vision 2030 programme and was launched in 2018 as a luxury tourist destination and caters for visitors to the Red Sea. Completion is scheduled for 2028.

The two resorts – Four Seasons Triple Bay and Six Senses Amaala – are both in the Triple Bay Marina.

“Amaala will be powered by 100% renewable energy for which the resulting saving in CO₂ emissions to the atmosphere is equivalent to nearly half a million tons each year. The destination will operate with a zero-carbon footprint once fully operational. As part of a new Red Sea ecosystem, the project is a part of NEOM and the Red Sea Project,” says HKS Architects on its website.

HKS is primarily responsible for the design of Amaala.
