Another Cape Town hotel implements water saving
THE Table Bay Hotel at the
V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, is
redoubling efforts to conserve
water as the Western Cape
remains drought stricken.
The hotel has implemented
two systems for collecting,
recycling, and reusing water.
Water from the kitchen and
selected rooms is treated and
stored, then used to flush
public toilets in the banquet
area as well as to water the
hotel gardens. The second
system recycles backwashed
water back into the swimming
pool. By implementing both
technical and behavioural
interventions, The Table
Bay has retained similar
water consumption levels
during both peak and lowest
occupancy periods, says gm,
Joanne Selby.
Flowering plants are being
replaced with succulents
and the irrigation system
at the main entrance has
been replaced with a drip
system, reducing garden water
consumption by up to 60%.
Additional water meters
have been installed to monitor
consumption in different
areas, in an effort to allow the
team to proactively implement
tactics to curb wastage.
Water-saving devices such as
flow restrictors on taps are
being used in the kitchens
and the staff are undergoing
training and awareness
programmes to apply watersmart
behaviour in their daily
tasks.

Exciting activities open at Sun City
A NEW rope adventure
park has been developed
at the Valley of the Waves
in Sun City by Tourvest,
in partnership with Chimp
& Zee. The park opened
on November 25 and
is offered through the
group’s Sun City-based
Mankwe-Gametrackers
business.
The 45-minute-long
activity includes high
balancing beams, zip
lines, hanging spider nets
and jungle rope bridges.
There are two access
points, allowing day
visitors outside the Valley
of the Waves to enjoy the
facility as well.
Mankwe-Gametrackers
ce, Peter Dlamini
says: “The rope
adventure park will add
considerably to Sun
City’s value proposition
as a sought-after leisure
and entertainment
destination.
“We feel that, while
guests enjoy the slides
and the waves, their
interest will be piqued by
the activities above them
and we expect the Valley
of the Waves to draw
larger numbers of people
as a result.”
He says safety is a
crucial aspect of this
new activity and highly
trained personnel will be
stationed at the beginning
and end of the rope
park’s circuit to ensure
the integrity of the cables
and related equipment.
