New aerial walkway for Kirstenbosch

VISITORS to Kirstenbosch
Botanical Gardens can enjoy the
Kirstenbosch Arboretum’s new
tree-top canopy walkway from early next
month.
The Boomslang Aerial walkway, which
has been in planning for two years, is
130m long and peaks at almost 12m
above the ground. It offers 360-degree
views of Cape Town and lets visitors
view birds and other animals that would
be difcult to see from the ground.
Constructed from galvanised steel
and painted to attract moss and
growth, the walkway has also been
designed to be wheelchair accessible.
“We wanted to celebrate our
centenary with a project that would be
spectacular, unique and long-lasting,”
said Adam Harrower from Kirstenbosch
Botanical Gardens. “This walkway,
which had been on the backburner
for many years, ts all the criteria
and is a perfect way to mark the
event in Kirstenbosch with something
permanent.”
