Airport workers in Spain will strike throughout the rest of this year, with 25 days of industrial action planned.
The strikes are set to take place from September until December, and are expected to affect airports in Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Alicante, Seville, and Palma de Mallora, reports Daily Record.
The confirmed dates for the strikes are as follows: September 15, 17, 22, 24, and 29, and December 26, 27, 28, 29, and 30. The strike dates for October and November have not yet been confirmed but it is believed that there will be strikes on seven days in October and two in November.
According to the workers’ unions, the strikes will result in travel chaos, and those planned for December are intended to cause as much disruption as possible between Christmas and New Year holidays, reports Simple Flying.
The unions represent airport staff, including security guards, baggage handlers, IT, retail, car park and catering staff. They are striking due to inadequate pay and poor working conditions.
Spain has issued a warning to those looking to travel to the country during the next four months and has advised travellers to check if their scheduled flights fall on or near any of the provided strike dates, and to be prepared for possible cancellations and delays.
