Table Mountain cableway closes

23 Jul 2024
Comments | 0

The iconic Table Mountain Cableway has temporarily shut down for its annual maintenance and will reopen, weather permitting, on Monday, September 2.

The overall seven-week closure is in line with its annual maintenance schedule and in accordance with international standards.

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway company will perform a full cable replacement for the first time since its 1997 revamp, as well as maintenance of the hanging and running gear, as per Original Equipment Manufacture specifications.

The Cableway, along with all commercial and public outlets and operations at both the Upper and Lower Stations will remain closed to the public for the duration. This includes shops, restaurants and ablution facilities.

Table Mountain itself is still accessible to hikers. Most of the routes and walkways will still be accessible, and travellers can still climb to the summit.

However, the hiking trails directly under the pathway of the cables will be closed as there will be extensive work happening overhead.
