Air travel round-up: EK offers chauffeur service in Japan

Emirates has announced that it will expand free Chauffeur-Drive service to two key airports in Japan, Narita International Airport (NRT) and Kansai International Airport (KIX). 

The service will be available:

  • From NRT, February 1, to Tokyo 23 wards and parts of Tokyo, Chiba, Saitama and Kanagawa. 
  • From KIX, March 1, to Osaka City and parts of Osaka, Nara, Kyoto and Hyogo. 

The airline said it would offer the service, free of charge, to its first- and business-class passengers travelling on Emirates-operated flights, for up to 100km. Excess mileage will be charged at JPY500 (R52) per additional kilometre.

UX orders 40 new A350-900s

Air Europa will add 40 new A350-900s to its fleet. 

In a media statement, the airline said the new aircraft would be equipped with advanced technologies and state-of-the-art aerodynamic design, enhancing both operational performance and efficiency. 

The latest-generation Rolls-Royce engines and lightweight materials are said to reduce fuel consumption by 25%, as well as reduce carbon emissions.

Qantas upgrades domestic network

Qantas is upgrading its domestic QantasLink fleet with new cabins on its Airbus aircraft, and acquiring additional Embraer E190s to replace some of its fleet.

QantasLink will upgrade its west Australian network by introducing Wi-Fi on its fleet of 28 A320 and A319 aircraft. The A320s will be fitted with new seats.

The first refurbished aircraft will operate later this year, with the full cabin and Wi-Fi programme expected to be completed early next year.

Three Embraer E190s will begin arriving by the end of the year to replace the Fokker F100s. In total, the airline will acquire up to 14 E190s.
