Tour op shuts doors, police launch investigation

eTNW has received reports that ATL Tours has ceased operations and that the SAPS is investigating cases of fraud against the company.

The offices, in Rosebank Mews, are currently closed and the phones aren’t being answered.

Chairman, Ahmed Talaat, denied reports on December 11 that it had closed its doors but has since then been unavailable for comment.

A SAPS spokesperson says that 41 people have come forward to open cases of fraud against ATL Tours and that Ahmed is a suspect, however no arrests have been made.

Thompson’s Holidays is offering assistance to travellers affected by the tour operator’s closure.

CEO of Cullinan Outbound, Joanne Adolphe, says for travellers who have already booked and paid for trips through ATL Tours, Thompson’s Holidays will take over the bookings and offer them trips at cost price.

For travellers who have booked travel but not yet paid through ATL Tours, Joanne says they will take over the booking and assist with any issues.

“People need to be cautious and book through reputable companies or travel agencies,” Joanne adds.

Two email addresses have been set up by Thompsons Holidays to assist people who have been specifically impacted by this issue. They are: lenita.mendes@thompsons.co.za and tanya.cardona@thompsons.co.za
