Travel marketers sign up for Threads

25 Jul 2023

According to skift.com, destination marketing organisations like Love Cape Town, What’s on in CPT, Johannesburg In Your Pocket and many others have signed up for the new app, Meta’s Threads.

Instagram has over a billion monthly users. As a result, these new Threads accounts have gained followings between 2000 and 5 000 within the two weeks since the app launched.

The main users of the new app are largely Gen-Z and, as they become travel destinations’ main clientele, the need to develop Threads marketing strategies will become more important.

Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, allows destinations to grow audiences quickly, as once users have logged in to Threads with their Instagram accounts, the new app automatically follows the same accounts they follow on Instagram. According to mybroadband.co.za, the over-100 million sign-ups in the first four days of Threads’ rollout could be a potential threat to Twitter’s 400-500 million user base.
