Two-way demand for direct HKG-CPT flights

CATHAY Pacific is
launching a seasonal
non-stop service
between Hong Kong and Cape
Town this November due to
demand from both inbound
and outbound travellers, says
Ashish Kapur, the airline’s
country manager for South
Africa and Indian Ocean.
The thrice weekly service
will operate from November
13 until February 18, 2019,
and run alongside Cathay
Pacific’s existing daily nonstop
flights between Hong
Kong and Johannesburg. The
new service will be operated
by an Airbus A350-900, with
tickets already available on
Amadeus.
Ashish told TNW that he
had seen a growing market
for effective, efficient travel
between Cape Town and
Hong Kong in both directions.
“The direct connectivity will
be equally advantageous to
the Cape Town business and
leisure travel markets, as
well as the booming Asian
economy. The route will
assist in helping businesses
grow and offer easier
accessibility to trade routes
in both directions.”
From a leisure perspective,
Ashish says Asia has always
been a firm favourite with
South African travellers
and that this new service
will provide Cape Town
passengers with more
direct options for exploring
undiscovered destinations
on the continent. Vicky
Steinhardt, product manager
of Pentravel, says it will
appeal to travellers who want
to plan a short trip to Hong
Kong to visit Disneyland
or watch the Sevens rugby
tournament.
Garth James, owneroperator
of City Flights,
says this is the kind of story
that warms an old travel
agent’s heart. “May this
route do well. Onward and
upward for South Africa’s
international flights!”
