The authority overseeing Notre Dame’s restoration has announced that the scaffolding surrounding the cathedral will be dismantled over the coming months.
The restoration authority, L’établissement Public, said the dismantling of the 100m-high scaffolding encasing the spire, comprising 70 000 metal components, has already begun but that it will take months to complete.
Initially, President Emmanuel Macron promised the restoration would be complete in time for the Paris Olympics. However, setbacks in the restoration process have necessitated an extension of the timeline, with the new target set for completion in December this year.
