US, Canada update entry regs

The CDC has announced that the requirement for travellers to produce a negative COVID test result or proof of recovery from COVID before boarding a flight to the United States has been rescinded as of June 12.

Travellers no longer need to take a pre-departure test for travel to the US, however tourists (non-citizens who are non-immigrants) must show proof of being fully vaccinated prior to boarding.

Following the announcement made on June 10 by the US, Canada said it was suspending random on-arrival testing for vaccinated travellers until June 30. Unvaccinated travellers may still be subjected to random on-arrival testing.

Canada removed its pre-entry test requirement for fully vaccinated travellers on April 1. The government’s website notes that unvaccinated and partially vaccinated children under the age of 12 do not have to provide a valid pre-entry test result if they are accompanying a fully vaccinated adult.

All travellers to Canada must still use ArriveCAN, the app for inbound travellers in which they upload their contact information, vaccination status and travel plans inside Canada.

The information must be loaded in the 72 hours before arrival.
