Vueling pax support green flights

Vueling’s partnership with sustainability business development company Exolum’s Avikor platform has enabled travellers to contribute to the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) when they book through its online ticketing system, according to Simple Flying.

Selecting the airline’s SAF contribution option during the booking process will lead to 2% SAF being used on the day of booking, which Vueling doubles by matching the contribution.

During the past year, more than 100 000 passengers have contributed to the airline’s supply of SAF. Of these, over 50% were aged 34-64, 40% younger than 34, and 9% older than 65.

The airline says this has resulted in carbon dioxide emissions being reduced by 350 tonnes over the past year, equivalent to 37 round trips between London Gatwick and Paris, or 15 round trips between Gatwick and Barcelona.

Vueling aims to use 10% SAF by 2030, as opposed to the European Union requirement of 6%.
