WHO strengthens Africa’s coronavirus response

The World Health Organization (WHO) is working to improve Africa’s readiness to detect and treat the coronavirus.

This comes as the first case of coronavirus on the continent is confirmed in Egypt. The latest situational report from WHO confirms that the single case contracted the virus outside China.

Dr. Michel Yao, emergency operations manager in Africa for WHO, says 18 countries are equipped to detect and confirm cases.

“There is training that will be done regarding some of the technical aspects in the weeks to come in 17 southern African countries."
