The Dutch Council of State has overturned the annual flight limits at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport saying the Dutch government did not provide adequate reasons for it.
In May last year, the Schiphol Airport Traffic Decree was amended to limit noise pollution at the airport. In November, flights at Schiphol were capped at 478 000 per year with a maximum of 27 000 between 23h00 to 07h00.
The court found that the decree was not properly drafted and was not able to prove that fewer flights at the airport would reduce noise pollution.
As a result, it ruled that the previous decree from 2008 would remain with no annual limits on flights. Flights between 23h00 to 07h00 will remain capped at 27 000 per year.
