Airlink has warned the Mozambique Travel Agents and Tour Operators Association (AVITUM) that it may terminate the issuance of its tickets through local booking channels due to difficulties with repatriating funds.
“Despite our continued commitment to serving the region and supporting the local tourism sector, we face persistent difficulties in repatriating funds generated by airline ticket sales in the country,” Airlink’s Sales Representatives said in a letter to AVITUM President, Noor Momade.
According to the airline, the blocked funds have strained its finances and operations in the country.
“Regrettably, we are seriously considering terminating airline ticketing through local booking channels in Mozambique. We understand the potential impact this decision may have on travel agents and passengers. Our team is actively exploring all possible avenues to resolve the situation,” said the letter.
Airlink assured the association that it would provide extensive notice and support to the travel trade if it went ahead with the suspension of ticketing in Mozambique.
The Mozambique Minister of Finance, Carla Loveira, said the department was collaborating with local banks to provide the necessary foreign currency for the repatriation of airline funds held in the country, reports Club of Mozambique.
