Algeria closes airspace to UAE aircraft

Algeria will close its airspace to all UAE civilian and military aircraft from September 11, following its decision to end diplomatic relations with the Middle Eastern state.

According to the Algerian Defence Ministry, UAE commercial flights to and from Algiers’ Houari Boumediene International Airport will still be allowed until the end of the year.

At the beginning of the year, Algeria began the process of cancelling its air services agreement with the UAE, which was signed in May 2013.

Reuters reported that Algeria abruptly severed diplomatic relations with the UAE last week, following alleged provocative or hostile actions by Abu Dhabi. However, ‌no specific reason was given for the decision.
