Amadeus introduces EMD solution

Starting March 18, Amadeus GTD Southern Africa will introduce its Electronic Miscellaneous Documents (EMD) solution, offering travel professionals end-to-end electronic booking and travel management solution.

“This marks a significant milestone in the industry, completing a journey that began more than five years ago when Iata set out the timelines to eradicate paper-based transactions,” said Peter Long general manager of Amadeus GTD Southern Africa.
Air France will be the first airline that will be available on local systems from March 18, with the ability to pay for change of reservation fees and excess baggage. British Airways will follow and the remainder of the carriers are expected to come online in due course.

The EMD standard was adopted by Iata to complete the migration to a fully electronic fulfilment system that encompasses more than merely electronic ticketing. The closing of the travel transactions loop now incorporates the digital addition of ancillary services such as calculating and charging change-booking fees, excess baggage, chargeable seats, lounge access and management and payment of refunds.
It is expected that the travel industry will complete the full migration to incorporate EMD by January 1, 2014, as per the Iata deadlines.

Amadeus advises that a complete brief of the EMD process will be communicated at its AQM workshops and a step-by-step guide will be available on Amadeus e-Support.
