Amsterdam Schiphol Airport was temporarily plunged into even more chaos on Thursday, July 21, when the baggage system broke down completely.
This meant that passengers on KLM’s European and UK flights were told there and then that there would be no checked-in baggage allowed on the airline’s Europe and UK flights from the airport.
Passengers received an email saying that, due to a major disruption of the baggage system at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, KLM was facing an unmanageable situation that was beyond its control.
Some passengers were already en route to Schiphol on inbound flights, with their checked-in baggage. The airline promised to get baggage back to their owners and resolve the necessary after-care and claims.
Passengers who were unable to depart with only hand luggage could choose to rebook their flight, free of charge, or request a travel voucher instead.
It is believed only flights inside Europe and UK were affected, and also that the problem with the machinery was resolved by the following day Friday, August 22.
