Amid ongoing delays at Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA), Air Traffic and Navigations Services (ATNS) has applied to the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) for exemptions to reinstate suspended instrument flight procedures at the airport.
On October 14, ATNS announced that two instrument flight procedures for Runway 5 at the airport had been suspended for maintenance, as reported by Travel News.
ATNS warned that the suspended procedures would cause delays for flights to the airport operating during adverse weather conditions.
The suspended instrument flight procedures have impacted a number of flights across the country, affecting over 3 000 passengers, according to Airlink. The airline said the suspended instrument flight procedures had primarily affected flights to KMIA.
“To lift the suspension of these procedures, ATNS wishes to inform industry stakeholders and passengers that it has submitted an exemption application to the South African Civil Aviation Authority. As soon as the exemption application has been approved by the SACAA, the procedures will be available for operational use. It is expected that a response from the regulator will be received in the next two weeks,” ATNS said in a statement.
