Boeing problems axe 9 000 seats

Boeing’s current production problems will impact airlines this summer, as they are affecting the company’s delivery of dozens of 737 Max jetliners in time for the season.

Last week, CEO David Calhoun, said inspections and repairs of unapproved fuselage parts would prevent Boeing from delivering these aircraft, adding that delivery delays would remove 9 000 seats from airline schedules this summer.

According to Chicago Sun Times, production problems last year stopped delivery of Boeing 787s, resulting in airlines having to cancel flights and routes.

Production of the Max had stopped in late 2019 after two of the aircraft crashed in Indonesia and Ethiopia, and has still not returned to pre-crash rates.

Last week, Boeing said subcontractor Spirit AeroSystems had used a non-standard manufacturing process on fittings where the tail is attached to the fuselage of Max jets. It said this would cause production and delivery delays.
