Update: SA Express has also temporarily suspended flights to Mthatha.
Airlink is suspending all Johannesburg-Mthatha flights, effective Friday, January 25.
The South African Civil Aviation Authority has downgraded the airport with immediate effect, due to safety concerns.
Airlink ceo and md, Rodger Foster, says: “Airlink will work closely with the Mthatha airport management to emplace a short-term interim solution in the interests of delivering continued services to our customers.” He says this could include the deployment of smaller aircraft, suited to the airport’s downgraded emergency services.
