A typhoon tore through Japan yesterday and early this morning, leaving at least two people dead and injuring more than 120, as well as wreaking havoc on transportation systems, Xinhua News reports.
Typhoon Trami first made landfall last night and carved a path through
western Japan and eastern and northern parts of Honshu, including the wider
Tokyo area.
Major airlines including Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways will likely
cancel more than 180 flights today because huge cancellations of flights
yesterday have left them short of aircraft. Other airports affected include Hokkaido
,Tohoku, Tokyo Haneda and Tokyo Narita. Some flights to/from Tokyo Haneda
Airport have been cancelled.
The runway at Osaka kansai Airport was closed from 11h00 on September 30 to 06h00 on October 01 due to typhoon Trami. For this reason, some of the flights from Osaka kansai Airport have been cancelled.
Singapore Airlines have rescheduled some of their flights between Singapore and Japan.
FlightsSQ623 on September 30 scheduled to depart Osaka at 23h25 and arrive in Singapore at 05h05 on October 1, has been retimed to October 1, departing at 08h30 and arriving at 14h10 on October 1.
At present, all other Singapore Airlines and SilkAir flights to and from Japan are continuing to operate as scheduled.
Cathay Dragon has also cancelled flight KA397 from Tokyo to Hong Kong scheduled to depart today.
Travellers are
advised to allow extra time for all journeys, and to check the status of their
flight on the websites of all respective airlines.
