Breaking news: OR Tambo fuel pumps operating as normal

14 Oct 2013 - by Tammy Sutherns

Operations at OR Tambo International Airport resumed to full capacity on Monday morning, following an attempted cable theft on Sunday (October 13), which prevented fuel being transmitted to aircraft.
Despite the major backlog following the incident, all scheduled aircraft managed to depart last night resulting in no flight cancellations.
Acsa has released a statement after both domestic and international flights were affected, resulting in the majority of airlines being delayed on Sunday.
“We can confirm that normal fuelling operations have resumed after the airport had been operating at significantly reduced fuelling capacity for about 10 hours yesterday. Technicians were able to restore power to the badly damaged cables just after 20h00 last night. The fuel pumps are now able to transmit fuel for uplift into aircrafts,” said OR Tambo International Airport spokesperson, Unathi Batyashe-Fillis.
