Caledon gets world’s longest zip-line

Adventure enthusiasts and thrill-seekers will be delighted to know that the world’s longest zip-line is expected to open in Caledon in July, weather permitting.

At 3,2km, SA Forest Adventures’ K3 zip-line is just under 400m longer than the current record-holder, Jais Flight in Ras al Khaimah in the UAE. The project has been several years in the making, but the COVID-19 pandemic delayed its construction.

“I spent two years searching for suitable sites all over South Africa. The location had to be both logistically practical and easily accessible. COVID-19 delayed our progress, especially with the opening of the Knysna zip-lines in 2020, which affected our timeline for K3,” said Clinton Lerm, owner of SA Forest Adventures.

Cables and equipment for tensioning K3 were received towards the end of May, and a helicopter was used to hoist the guide cable. Once the main cables are installed, rigorous tests will be conducted to ensure the safety of the zip-line, confirmed SA Forest Adventures.

SA Forest Adventures will begin work on its next project – a 5km zip-line – in the next two years.

“We want to remain the longest zip-line in the world,” said Lerm.
