The Karoo Development Foundation is sponsoring a new battlefields route in the central Karoo.
There are multiple battlefield sites in the Karoo, and an increase in demand for local dark tourism led to plans for a more complete battlefield route.
The Karoo Battlefields Route currently includes six towns: Colesberg, Noupoort, Norvalspont, Bethulie, Philippolis and Springfontein, all clustered around the N1 highway. The new route will be extended further into the Karoo.
The route extension will connect various routes and museums and offers a tour of army force sites, invasion points and historically accurate railways.
