Colosseum declared ‘red zone’

Rome has declared the area around the Colosseum a security ‘red zone’ following a rise in violent incidents, theft and drug dealing. 

The measure will remain in place until December and will see increased security, including a round-the-clock presence of local police and military personnel that are already deployed at some of Rome’s busiest tourist sites.
