As a result of the implementation of the new Schengen Visa Information System (VIS) in South Africa on June 6, the Consulate General of Greece in Johannesburg will be closed to the public from June 3-4. The consulate reminds the public that it is also closed on Wednesdays.
The visa section will reopen on Thursday, June 6 from 09h00 until 12h30 and will be implementing VIS, which is launched on the same day by all missions of the Schengen member states in South Africa.
Under the Schengen VIS, all visa applicants will have to lodge their applications in person to provide their biometric data (10 fingerprints digitally captured and digital photograph taken).
This new procedure is expected to significantly add to the time needed to lodge an application. It is highly recommended that travellers apply at least 15 days in advance (but no more than three months prior to departure).
In an effort to better accommodate all visa applicants, the Consulate General of Greece has entered into an agreement with VFS Visa Processing South Africa Pty Ltd. for the imminent opening (in June) of Greek Visa Application Centres in Johannesburg and in Durban.
