Latam Airlines will undertake US$400 million (R5,8bn) cabin renovations on two-thirds of its global fleet, which will see over 200 aircraft upgraded in the next two years.
Cabins on aircraft serving both long- and short-haul routes throughout the airline’s network will be upgraded, with Latam Airlines Peru receiving the first renovated aircraft before the end of the year. This will be followed by Latam Airlines Brazil at the start of 2019, with the first route being Lima-São Paulo. Latam Airlines Group’s Chile affiliate will operate the renovated aircraft from the second half of 2019.
Latam’s Boeing 767, B777, and B787-9 aircraft will be upgraded, as well as its A350-1000s. The Boeing 767 currently operates the Johannesburg-São Paulo route, however at this stage there is no confirmation from the airline that the aircraft on this route will be upgraded.
Features in the new cabins include: new ‘Wide Thompson’ seats and improved inflight service in premium business class, with all passengers having direct aisle access, fully flat bed, and 46cm personal inflight entertainment system; economy cabins will have ergonomic seats, USB power ports, and a 31cm entertainment system.
Latam will also renovate the cabins of over 150 Airbus A320s and A321s operating on domestic Latin American routes. These cabins will feature improved inflight entertainment options, WiFi, ergonomic seats, and USB power ports.
Economy-class passengers will also be able to upgrade to Latam+ seats, which offer more space with reclining seats and premium services such as priority check-in and boarding.
