THE Community Tourism Association (CTA) of South Africa has appointed Shaun van Eck as its new chairman at a special annual general meeting held in Stellenbosch recently.
Van Eck, director for Port Elizabeth Tourism, replaces Charl Fouche, tourism director for Uthukela Regional Council in Ladysmith, KwaZulu Natal.
Fouche who was elected as the CTA's first chairman when it was formed in October 1998, declined re-election.
The CTA has 90 members countrywide, linking all bodies that function under the Local Government Act.
These include tourist information offices, publicity associations, community tourism associations, tourism marketing bodies for cities and regions, as well as the regional and district councils involved in the promotion of tourism.
