Disneyland Resorts has revealed its California Adventure Park’s transformation into San Fransokyo Square and announced its opening on August 31.

The new attraction is based on the setting of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Oscar-winning film, ‘Big Hero 6’, situated in a fictional, futuristic mash-up of two iconic cities: San Francisco and Tokyo.

In the weeks leading up to its debut, some of the themed Asian and fusion food and speciality beverage offerings will be revealed. Some of the restaurants already unveiled include Lucky Fortune Cookery, Aunt Cass Café, Port of San Fransokyo Cervecería and Rita’s Turbine Blenders.

The park will consist of “Easter eggs” such as hidden references, clues, subtle jokes or messages from the movie and its spin-off TV series. It will also have iconic architectural elements including the movie’s San Fransokyo Gate Bridge, which spans the existing tidal pools and the characteristic koi-fish-shaped wind turbines that power the unique multicultural district.

‘Big Hero 6’ merchandise will start rolling out a few weeks before the park opens and, Baymax and Hiro will be making an appearance at their dedicated location just outside the warehouse, providing ample photo opps.
